Abnormal Situations During Taxi
Chapter 5.6
Procedures in Case of Brake Failure or Nose Wheel Steering Failure
If the AFM gives a proceedure, it must be followed.
If no procedure is given, it is advisable to follow the following procedure:
Brake Failure
To avoid collisions with other aircraft or obstacles, you must take appropriate evasive manoeuvres. At the same time head for an upward slope or an area that increases rolling resistance, e.g. by rolling over grass.
After Engine Shut Down:
Conduct the ENGINE SHUT DOWN procedure
The air traffic control service must be informed of this procedure and its cause.
Nose Wheel Steering Failure
After the failure of the nose wheel steering system, one can still control one’s direction by using the brakes.
You should decide to:
either shut down the engine, or return with caution to one’s point of origin.
The air traffic control service should be informed.
The airplane is no longer airworthy!
