Operational Preparation of the Flight

Chapter 2.1

Workload

The workload necessary for the operational preparation of a flight depends on:

  • the type of airplane
  • the type of flight foreseen as well as its conditions

During basic training, you will have the opportunity to prepare different flights.

Necessary information

One must obtain information on:

  • The departure, arrival and alternate aerodromes
  • the operational flight navigation plan, including the route calculations, flight altitude and fuel
  • Weather conditions / METEO
  • ▶︎ Actual weather conditions at aerodromes / METAR
  • ▶︎ Forecasts at aerodromes / TAF
  • ▶︎ General aviation forecasts / GAFOR
  • Notifications to Airmen / NOTAM
  • Charts of danger / restricted areas within Swiss airspace / DABS
