Engine Shutdown and Parking

Chapter 2.8

Pilot's responsibility

Before leaving the parking area, you will need to do whatever is necessary to ensure the airplane cannot be damaged. You are responsible for protecting it against damage and securing it to the ground before its formal return.

Safety Measures

If there are marks on the ground, you must ensure that the airplane is fully within the marked and designated parking area. If parts of the aeroplane remain outside these areas, there is the possibility that another aircraft or vehicle will collide with it.

Safety Measures

If you leave the parking area for an extended time, you must block the wheels with chocks. Each airplane has tie-downs or an appropriate device for mooring it to the ground, such as ropes or other suitable devices. These points are often depicted with an anchor.

Safety measures

The airplane’s control surfaces must be secured against wind gusts by the use of GUST LOCKS. If the cockpit lacks such a device, you can can use seat belts to the same effect.

Safety Measures

The PITOT COVER is a protection with a red banner. Depending on the location and availability, engine air intakes and openings in the hood must be closed with appropriate covers.
