Climbing Turns, Descending Turns, Gliding Turns

Chapter 9.5

Characteristics of a Climbing Turn

With an airplane that has small power reserves, climbing turns must be made with a maximum inclination of 15 to 20 degrees. For large banks, the climb becomes flatter, yet it is still a climb.

Characteristics of a Climbing Turn

When climbing, the margin between Vx and V STALL is very small and the critical angle of attack can be quickly exceeded.

Characteristics of Descent and Gliding Turns

When descending or gliding, the airplane can quickly take a higher speed either horizontally, vertically or descending / Rate of Descent. If the elevator control is operated without caution, there is a danger of exceeding the maximum speed for the structural overload limits.
