Characteristics of the Documentations
Mandatory operation of an aircraft requirements are laid down in official documents.
Only documents approved by relevant authorities may be used in the field of aviation. All aircraft must be operated according to the operating instructions established by the manufacturer (AFM).
The Aircraft Flight Manual, AFM
The AFM is part of the aircraft’s equipment. It must always be carried on board.
The AFM contains:
- a technical description of the aircraft
- procedures for normal operations, abnormal
- situations and emergencies
- maximum and minimum speed limitations
- layout of the aircraft systems
- limitations (speed limitations, engine limitations, mass and balance, G-load)
These matters form the basis of the operation of the aircraft.
The Checklist
The checklist is a summary of all compulsory items to be verified. They are structured in blocks called CHECKS. These CHECKS are the final verification of one or more procedures. They are defined by the AFM.
Checklists are part of the aircraft’s equipment. They must be carried on the aircraft and be available at any time during flight.
CHECKLIST FOR ABNORMAL SITUATIONS / EMERGENCIES
The CHECKLIST FOR ABNORMAL SITUATIONS / EMERGENCIES is an extract from the AFM. It is used in the execution of checks and procedures in abnormal situations and emergencies. It is either clearly coloured, or has a clearly coloured tab. It is part of the prescribed aircraft equipment and must be available at all| times during the flight.
The EXPANDED CHECKLIST
It is discussed during ground school and is further completed with personal notes. This checklist serves as a learning aid and is useful for home-study.
The term «Expanded» means that procedures are addressed in detail. This list is used as an aid to better understand the procedures and their verification. It is used in the procedure trainer.
