Configuration Changes and Side Effects of Controls

Chapter 4.8

Definition: CONFIGURATION

The term CONFIGURATION means:

The configuration of an aircraft is made by the combination

- of the position of the aerodynamic resistances, for example the FLAPS
or the SPEEDBRAKES / air brakes

- of the position of the landing gear

The configurations are named after the flight phases for which they are characteristic.

Examples of Configurations

Procedure for Changing Configuration

Changes in configuration are changes in the position of the drag and lift producing items (flaps, landing gear).

When changing configuration, only one parameter must be changed at a time. It is difficult to compensate for different, sometimes contrary, effects.
