Chapter 14.1

Conditions for the First Solo Flight

There should be no uncertainty about the conduct of the solo flight for all involved. Independent performance is evidence that you are able to make judgments and make the necessary decisions for a safe execution or replanning of the flight, without the active assistance of the instructor.

Conditions for the First Solo Flight

This flight takes place only when your instructor is sure that he / she will not have to intervene by RTF to assist you. During the check flights immediately before the first solo flight, you will prove that you are able to:

  • perform an entire circuit alone using the RTF in a consistent manner or by correctly interpreting the light and visual signals
  • have an overview and integrate the LOOKOUT into the SCANNING
  • execute all procedures and checks in a timely and correct manner
  • systematically correct the approach
  • recognize in time if the approach or landing will be too short or too long
  • decide whether to initiate a GO-AROUND on your own initiative and from each phase when necessary
  • land the airplane gently and flared out in the intended landing area
  • perform good maneuvers even in case of unforeseen events, such as when the approach direction changes
  • adequately apply emergency procedures

Flight Preparation, Minimum Weather / WX MINIMA

You must be able to do the operational and technical preparations yourself:

  • establish and / or file the flight notification
  • choose an ALTERNATE aerodrome
  • prepare the flight and approach documentation on the alternate aerodrome
  • determine how much fuel is needed
  • decide whether the flight is possible in relation to the METEO at the aerodrome where you intend to perform the solo circuits, the alternate aerodrome and its en-route

Flight Preparation, Minimum Weather / WX MINIMA

The WX MINIMA for the aerodrome on which the flight is carried out shall be fixed so that the ALTERNATE can be reached. Additionally:

  • no precipitation
  • no strong winds or turbulence
  • maximum crosswind according to level of experience
  • no expected weather deterioration

Flight Preparation, Minimum Weather / WX MINIMA

Acceptance of aircraft:

  • Verification of the TECH LOG and its entries
  • Remaining fuel / REFUELING
  • WALK AROUND according to the EXPANDED CHECKLIST
  • COCKPIT PREPARATION
